Negative experience: This review is for anyone considering this dental office — please do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. My experience here was extremely concerning. The office felt poorly run, disorganized, unprofessional, and profit-driven rather than about providing quality patient care. I was overdiagnosed, overbilled, and did not feel I received proper or ethical care. The management could care less, so don’t bother. As other reviews mention, there is a heavy focus on production numbers and pushing Invisalign instead of addressing actual dental health needs. I felt rushed, unheard, and honestly taken advantage of. The staff are confused, and there are constantly new faces at the office, which made it appear as though the turnover was extremely high. You likely will never see the same dentist or hygienist twice, how is that for stability or consistency?! That alone is a major red flag and explains a lot about my experience. I will never return and strongly recommend choosing a different dental office. Edit: Watch your wallet and receipts carefully!!

Fantastic experience: As someone new to the area, I booked a new patient exam and cleaning and had a great experience from the start. The office is bright, clean, and beautifully decorated. I’m generally pretty anxious about dental visits (mostly fear of judgment), but Neha gave me the gentlest cleaning I’ve ever had. At my second appointment, today, for fillings, Bruna and Dr. Ida were a dream team. They made it look effortless and the whole process was surprisingly comfortable. I finally feel confident enough to go ahead with my wisdom teeth extraction because I know I’m in good hands with Dr. Ida.

Fantastic experience: First time today visiting and everyone was amazing and kind. If you’re scared of dentists this is the perfect place for you. They explained everything they make you feel comfortable and heard and very thorough.

Fantastic experience: Kelly is the most amazing hygienist. She remembers so much about me and my family even when I only see her twice a year. She is always friendly and professional and gives such care and attention to my oral health. I highly recommend her and Arbutus North Dental.

Negative experience: Looks great! Horrible services. Warned the staff of anxiety as well as heavy plaque build up and I paid $170 for an anxiety med. they sat me in front of an active construction zone while I was told my own phone is “too stimulating for sedative”. I’m then brought in for “an hour cleaning” which couldn’t have been more than 30 minutes. I’ve had maybe 6 teeth cleaned. After paying 387 I’d expect to actually have my teeth cleaned, not being told I need to pay for another cleaning. They took a bunch of photos and ex rays that I then have to go back down to the clinic to discuss how much more $ they want to not complete a job.

Fantastic experience: I had a very painful tooth where I had lost part of the filling on one of my molars. I woke in pain with a toothache at 4 AM on a Saturday morning. After trying to find an emergency dental office, I found what I was looking for at Arbutus North dental. I was seen promptly, within half an hour of calling on the Saturday afternoon. X-rays were taken by the assistant, at which point the dentist came in to provide her opinion. We were able to proceed with both treatment and prevention in a matter of hours. Most impressive! Jackson.

Negative experience: I wouldn’t recommend this office to anyone. I originally found it because it was part of UBC’s list of dentists which offer the 20% student discount, and I lived nearby. I received numerous fillings, which were extremely quick. One time three fillings were done within an hour session. I had bad tooth pain for quite a while so I went in to have it fixed, and they said that they “thought” it could be fixed with a filling. I told them to do what they thought was best, as I just wanted a healthy tooth and for the pain to go away. After getting the filling, I still had pain and it eventually became unbearable. I found a different dentist through a family friend who was very concerned about my pain. The new dentist was shocked they thought a filling would be ok and rushed me in for an emergency root canal. There was a ton of internal bleeding in my tooth caused by the MASSIVE filling they had put in my tooth. I have since had to pay again to redo most of the fillings, and am still in the process of recovering my tooth after having to see a specialist to get it fixed half a year ago. Please heed the bad reviews. I didn’t and now I’m here.

Fantastic experience: My wife had to have some teeth extracted so that she could get braces, and she was feeling extremely nervous because she felt self conscious about having missing teeth while the braces did their job. The staff were calm, understanding, and reassuring. Esspecially Michelle who was just lovely every step of the way, and the Dentist Kevin was professional and skilled. My mother Dr. Myrna Pearce founded this office, and built it with her own two hands, she hand picked and personally trained every member of the staff, including the new owner. It was of utmost importance to her that she was able to find someone who wanted to carry on the same level of excellence of care that she insisted upon from her staff, and I am proud to see that her office has continued to uphold the same quality of service and care that I have recieved my entire life coming to this office. If it were up to me they would get 13/5 stars, this is the best dentist office in the Greater Vancouver, hands down, and yes this review is EXTREMELY biased.

Fantastic experience: I was in a lot of unbearable pain for days and they got me the early appointment I needed for my wisdoms extraction. Huge shoutout to Anjalee for helping make that happen, I really wish I could do more to thank her than just a review.

Fantastic experience: Beyond impressed with my results with @dr. Rojin. I had broken my vaneer and went in on rush appointment. She somehow fixed the vaneer but what impressed me most was that she did it with zero pain and no irritation. I’m not exaggerating it shocked me how gentle, yet fast she was. Probably the best dental experience I’ve ever had. I rarely write reviews but I had to give her a big shout out. Also the tooth looks better than before.

But Kayla, my new hygienist, was so pleasant, thorough, and gentle that I almost nodded off. Dr. Neda was absolutely charming and gentle too. I left the office feeling like a million bucks. I’ll have no more anxiety knowing that I’ll have Kayla and Dr. Neda looking after me.

Negative experience: This place feels like a scam. They constantly add hidden fees and unexpected charges to your insurance, and they won’t stop calling to pressure you into unnecessary procedures. When I signed up for Invisalign, I was told it was a one-time, lifetime cost. Later, they demanded an additional $400 out-of-pocket for new retainers. It’s not just me—friends of mine have had similar experiences, being overcharged for items they were assured insurance would cover. The whole operation feels less like a dental office and more like a business designed to squeeze as much money as possible out of patients.

Negative experience: First time I went last year was great. But this time it was disorganised and I was given a poor quality retainer compared to 4 high quality ones last year for a similar price.

Fantastic experience: The absolute best dental clinic I have ever patronized. The office has a calm relaxing feel to it, almost like a "spa". Decorated in a clean sleek modern design, with a lobby with lots of room. All the treatment rooms offer plenty of privacy with all the imaginable latest high tech equipment. The entire staff wears uniforms (designer selected, not only for a great appearance but comfort & flexibility for everyone). Every staff member is well groomed and extremely friendly. It is obvious a real investment by the owner(s) was made to train everyone in excellent customer service and office procedures. A rare find these days. First impressions are important and these guys definitely know what they are doing and do it extremely well. Most importantly the way they treated me with genuine respect and a heart felt sincerity was unique. No were else have I ever experienced such interest in my dental needs, detailed evaluation, copies/pictures of Xray's etc. and interest in what MY needs were. All the time was taken to answer & explain my treatments as I needed. Big bonus the reception desk took full control of following up with the insurance paperwork. What a blessing. After re-reading this I think, boy this sounds like an expensive place. Rates are competitive with others dental locations but this entire operation, location, set-up, staff and experience are worth every penny. I can't wait to return for my follow up sessions. Now who can say that about their dentist's visits?

Fantastic experience: Thank goodness for Arbutus North! I made the mistake of leaving when Dr. Lockhart retired, but that led me to the horrible Highgate Dental in Burnaby. At Arbutus, they quickly diagnosed the problem Highgate ignored and I’m on my way to the root canal I needed even before Highgate blew off the pain I was in three weeks ago, when they left me in pain, telling me it was normal. Thanks, Dr. Yang and Arbutus!

Fantastic experience: The team at Arbutus North dental are professional & the office is beautiful. Dr Brunel & Kelly are through, gentle & warm. They explain options & the office team helps with submitting insurance pre-approvals, so you are able to make informed choices. I was sad to see Dr Lockhard retire but grateful Dr Brunel has been a lovely successor.

Negative experience: When I went for my first patient exam, the total work recommended was well in excess of $7,000. Thankfully I have since sought the opinion of a different dentist, the total work recommended by the other dentist was $1500. I felt they were trying to get as much money as they could. Even when I was getting my teeth cleaned, the hygienist tried to upsell me laser gum treatment. She didn't explain why I needed this or what the benefits were, but told me I would only have to pay a certain amount because of my benefits. I had the misfortunate of having 4 wisdom teeth removed here in 2024, I recommend going else where for this procedure where a higher level of sedation can be offered. Follow up for pain management post procedure was very poor/non existent. I haven't been to this clinic in 6 months but I'm still struggling with significant sensitivity from a crown placement that was done here in October. I have complained to the clinic about my experience who offered to work with me to address my concerns, but I have lost trust & don't wish to ever go back here.

Negative experience: After following the original owner/dentist for 30+ years, to see the establishment of the current practice, I am so sad to say good-bye to Arbutus North Dental. I have tried to give the current owners the benefit of the doubt but I just can't anymore. Changing my appointment with out consultation when the office knows I am working out of town, telling me that I have to pay up front when I have two plans covering expenses and pre-billing me for services?? Sad and greedy. Lacking basic customer service skills. Take your smile elsewhere. You will just be a number at Arbutus North Dental.

Negative experience: This clinic brands itself as a "Top 1% Diamond Invisalign Provider" on its website. What does that mean for patients? It means booking a routine dental cleaning and being told by a dental hygienist that you're a great candidate for Invisalign—whether you need it or not. I've seen dentists across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and North America, and every single one has remarked on how fortunate I am to have naturally straight teeth. Yet, somehow, the dental hygienists at Arbutus thought otherwise. At this clinic, I felt more like a dollar sign than a patient. After an awkward exchange with a hygienist—who tried to sell me on Invisalign by mentioning a summer promotion—my dentist informed me that I needed to have my two wisdom teeth removed. I told him he was the first dentist to ever suggest this. I only have two wisdom teeth, and they aren’t causing me any discomfort. He claimed they were "lowering into my mouth." When I asked him what measurement he was using as a reference—since he had no baseline for comparison—he just stared at me blankly. I said I’d need some time to consider undergoing an invasive procedure, to which he quipped that removing wisdom teeth isn’t “invasive.” And so, there we were, arguing over semantics.

Fantastic experience: Got my teeth whitening done by Maybelle & Jasmine, and the experience was impeccable!! Both of them made sure that I was comfortable and that I was aware of any after effects. 100% recommend. :)

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience at Arbutus North Dental. Dr. Neda is very thorough, and the hygienists are excellent as well. My teeth have never felt better. The staff is always helpful, providing estimates upfront and going above and beyond to assist with insurance, even with the Canadian Dental Plan. They always kept me informed throughout the process, to prevent any surprises.

Negative experience: Terrible work done numerous times! I used to go there years ago when the original owner had the place and she was lovely. Now Dr. Neta owns the place and honestly the quality of work has gone way down the prices have gone way up. My mom had a terrible time, my daughter had her tooth "placer" put in upside down by the owner herself and left in for one year. Most recently I had to pay over 1800 for a root canal and it only lasted one year before it cracked and now after chewing gum, the whop top part of the root canal pulled off and now my tooth is all jagged, they wont fix it for free even though we already paid almost 2,000 for the work. We are disappointed and feel they didnt do professional work and over charged us!

Negative experience: I’m a new patient and unfortunately feel like I’m being “sold” on services I’ve never asked for. In two visits I’ve been pushed on Invisalign, which was never an issue at my old dentist. I had also asked for whitening gel for existing trays and was told they won’t sell it to me because my trays weren’t done by their office and need to be “inspected.” The service overall feels like a sales funnel I don’t want to be in and I’m moving on as quickly as I arrived.

I now live across town and continue to visit this clinic for myself and for my daughter’s dental needs. The staff are genuine and welcoming, and the care provided is always pain-free and professional. I have also always found the billing process extremely efficient. I highly recommend this clinic to anyone looking for an exceptional dental experience.

Negative experience: Went in with high expectations given the positive reviews, but it is not a great dental clinic. The dentist i saw (I forgot her name) was just looking to upsell and generate a larger bill rather than give an honest opinion of what kind of work is needed. She recommended work on my teeth that was completely unnecessary as advised by a dentist i saw after my visit here at Arbutus. My advice is to avoid this clinic and go elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: I came in for an emergency root canal and was so pleasantly surprised by their quality of work, availability and price! And it is walking distance from my house. Literally had an almost pain free root canal!!

Fantastic experience: I love this place. I have had many bad experiences at dental offices before and it has caused a bit of anxiety when I go. But this place has hands down been the most sincere and gentle and friendly dental place ever with me. I’ve recommended it to all my friends because it’s the best place I will ever find. I’ve used a few different people here and EVERYONE from the front desk (the hero’s of the place) to the Hygienists to the Dentists have been spectacular. I’ve never felt so heard before or been given such a specific dental plan before either. They know exactly what my insurances covers (even tho it changes each year) and they put a plan in place. No more feeling blindsided or confused as to what’s being done. Go to this place!! You will not regret it!!

Fantastic experience: I just switched dental offices and I am extremely impressed with the quality of service at Arbutus North Dental! I had the best cleaning I’ve ever had with Rachel who used the biolase laser to kill bad bacteria under my gums. She was very friendly and thorough (and I definitely feel the results)! After I saw Dr Neda for a full consultation and fitting for a mouth guard by using a digital scanner. Dr Neda was very professional and relaxed, which made me feel at ease throughout my visit. I also get Invisalign and working with Maybelle has been great. I would highly recommend this dental clinic, Rachel, Maybelle and Neda. I was really impressed with their use of the latest technology to ensure I was getting the best service and everyone at Arbutus North Dental was extremely friendly and welcoming!

Negative experience: I recently had a complex dental issue and my periodontist referred me to a dentist with a detailed report explaining the issue and asking dentist to look into if they can save the teeth. My current dental issues are the cause of either wrong dental treatment or negligence by the dentists when I was a child and also in the last year, so I felt the need of going to four different dentists to get a second opinion before deciding who to work with. I was referred to this clinic through a friend. She was hesitant but didn’t tell much about why. Tbh only smooth thing about this clinic was getting my appointment with a dentist through their online system. Later, i sent detailed reports and x-rays from my periodontist and confirmed they received it. When I arrived to my appointment, they were unaware of x-rays and reports and wanted to take new ones. Things got resolved when I asked them to check their emails - this saved me dollars from unnecessary x-rays. I saw Dr. Royce Yang. He first started to explain the report from my periodontist without really asking much to me. When I asked what his professional opinion was, he jumped at upselling me implants at locations that I didn’t need treatment and didn’t even focus on the teeth that have poor prognosis according to the periodontist report and other dentists. He was asking me what would be my end goal “getting an implant or getting a dental bridge”. I shared my end goal is to protect my oral health and teeth as long as I can, he still kept circling around where he can do some implants, then individual crowns or why should i get an individual implant for each teeth at the front. When I asked more questions, he told me it is better if he can show me case studies and opened his instagram account… “here is a complex case I dealt with”. I needed to tell him that I’d prefer to use the time to get answers to questions specific to my situation. He was the last dentist out of 4. Overall, I felt he was focused on implants and wants to shine through implant surgeries without even figuring out if he could save the teeth or thinking about long-term impact of his suggested treatments. To give a context, I got my report from a respected periodontist who is specializing on implants and gum surgeries. She referred me to a dentist to check if the teeth are salvageable to lengthen the lifespan of my teeth before invasive operations like implants. When I shared my experience with the friend, she shared that she saw Dr. Royce Yang for fillings. He kept needing to fix his work throughout three appointments and she switched to Dr. Karla as a result. At the end of the appointment, receptionist wasn’t able to directly process my bill through blue cross even though she got exactly the same info as other dental clinics that were able to process. When she started refer to a workplace that is not my employer, I gave up and wanted to leave there, so just ask for the receipt to submit to my insurance on my own.

Fantastic experience: It had been the entire pandemic since my last visit to Arbutus North Dental, and what should have been an unpleasant cleaning, was anything but. My hygienist, Kelly, was incredible. Professional, very gentle, and not an ounce of blood was shed (and that's a big deal, as there should have been). Monday was one of my best visits yet. Fantastic experience: Free parking in a busy area. Staff is friendly and makes you aware of all that will happen. My last appointment was pain free for prep work that involved a lot of drill noises. Time went by quickly as I was advised at all times what stage of work we were at.

Fantastic experience: I have been going to Arbutus North Dental for more than a year now. For all my cleaning or any general dental needs. But a couple of days ago, a part of my upper left wisdom tooth cracked/chipped having to feel a hole on that tooth I knew I had to get it out. I contacted Arbutus North Dental hoping for an emergency wisdom tooth check up. To my surprise they were happy to take me in the following day. Knowing that I need to take out that wisdom tooth ( and might as well take out the other 3 ) I explained my anxiety and fear with any dental extraction or procedure. Dr. Royce Yang and his team was more than happy to tell me my options for the procedure as well as fast recovery post op. The team of Dr. Yang as well as the lovely receptionist Jessica was more than happy to accomodate me as soon as possible. They booked me in the following day to prepare for the sedation and the procedure. They assured me that it will be an easy and pain free process. Upon the appointment, I sat down in the chair still nervous and almost in tears but giving me the right sedation option to calm me down; also taking their time to make sure that it will be an easy procedure for me was beyond customer service. I sat down that chair in the best state getting all 4 wisdom tooth taken out just like that. Didn’t feel any of it and if I were uncomfortable in anyway during the procedure; Dr. Yang checks up on me every couple minutes and assuring me that if I am in any sort of pain he will ease it. He had such light hands and a less invasive approach but definitely will do everything so that the procedure will be complete and won’t cause future problems. Overall, I did feel silly for being nervous on the procedure. Doing it in Arbutus North Dental was the best choice for me. Me and my partner trusts Arbutus North Dental before but now with the way they handled from start to finish should even be given anything beyond 5 stars and we will definitely be back again.

Fantastic experience: I was born with terrible teeth, soft enamel, and deep pits. As a result of my situation I’ve had a lot of dentists and dental work throughout my life. Dr Royce is hands down the best dentist I’ve ever had in everything from simple cavities to ortho and implants. He is very talented and kind. His assistant Kirstine is also great. I’m glad Royce is younger because I’ll be his patient for life.

Negative experience: The dental clinic is part of the Studentcare Dental Network which offers students an extra 20% in insurance coverage. I showed up and told the receptionist I was a student and had cost concerns and I handed her my student ID for insurance purposes. For all my visits to the clinic they withheld that information and didn’t offer me the extra 20% of coverage. I first visited the clinic because of excruciating pain, I had done all types of X-rays and a full check up with Dr. Laura where she recommended doing a couple of filling on my teeth. When that was done the pain hadn’t gone away after 2 weeks where I called the clinic and they booked me for a sit in with Dr. Laura to see what’s going on. She told me that it might take a while for the pain to go away because my teeth have become hypersensitive and that’s normal. After a many weeks the pain (sometimes I couldn’t walk) did go away but I then found out that I had an abscess through two other dentists and I was told that the wrong teeth were treated and the absence was completely missed by Dr. Laura. So I ended up paying more than I should have, having most of my insurance being used up for the wrong treatment on the wrong tooth. I called up about getting a refund on the extra 20% of coverage about a year later when I found out and was told that it is too late to do that and that maybe the receptionist might’ve missed that I was a student even though I told her and I handed her my UBC ID which has my insurance coverage ID number. Safe to say, everything that could’ve gone wrong ended up going wrong.

Fantastic experience: I am very pleased with the dental care I’ve received from hygienist Skylar and Dr. Rowan Doyle. I recently moved to Vancouver and was in search for a permanent dental office to get treatment. It was my first appointment and i have never met either of them before, and i must say they were all very professional, showed exemplary care, and followed modern technology. For my teeth cleaning and X-ray; Skylar was very compassionate, friendly, explained everything throughout and had very gentle hands. And for my consultation with Dr. Doyle was friendly, efficient, and followed highest level of dental recommendations. The reception staff was also very professional, on point, and they all followed Covid infection control protocol. I felt at ease in my entire 2.5 hour appointment. I would recommend them to anyone in the future and will continue my dental care at their office.

Fantastic experience: I'm truly not one who usually writes reviews, but I have been nothing but impressed with Dr Neda Rafati. My dentist had retired many years ago and I never bothered to find another one until I lost a crown. I had called around to a few places and a friend of mine suggested I give them a call. I don't live near them, so it is a bit of a trek for me, but it is absolutely worth it. They were happy to give me a quick clean and fix but I was looking for a new dentist. They sat me down and showed me in detail what they could work on for preventative measures and they really took time to walk me through why and showed me on a big screen so I could see for myself. They outlined priorities and things that could wait if I wasn't bothered by them. I have been lucky enough to have Sam as a dental hygienist on many occasions and both her and Dr. Neda have been so lovely to work with. Even with all of their sterile COVID-19 safety measures, they still manage to make the office a warm and welcoming environment. I highly recommend this dental office. Especially if you have any anxiety about getting dental work done.

Fantastic experience: Today I had a cleaning with this wonderful hygienist, Jim. He made sure i was super comfortable the entire duration of my visit. He's quite knowledgeable about dental health and was nice enough to teach me about oral health and how important it is to keep up with flossing. Overall great experience. The receptionists are also very friendly and greeted me upon arrival and when it came to settling up and upon leaving they informed me that I'd get a text reminder closer to my next appointment.

Fantastic experience: I had a fantastic first experience with Arbutus North today. I have a history of depression that has made regular oral hygiene very difficult for me and my previous dentist was not very compassionate about it. I had been putting off going to the dentist for a while because I was anxious about being judged. The first thing I noticed, even before my appointment, was the care the reception team puts in to patient communication. They got back to my online appointment request within the hour and I was booked in for an exam and cleaning but more so when I told them that I was nonbinary they immediately noted it in my file and changed my honourific to Mx. Today at my appointment I felt cared for and like my needs were being prioritized. Rosa, the tech taking my x-rays was super sweet, she really helped me loosen up and laugh at the beginning of the appointment. Dr. Allan Hovan listened to me and helped me set reasonable goals for where I’m at, while also reassuring me that, much to my disbelief, my teeth are in good shape and my mental illness has not ruined another aspect of my life. I work in veterinary medicine in a clinic that practices ‘fear free’, a practice style where we try to keep the fear, anxiety, and stress of our patients to a minimum and what I experienced today was as close to fear free as dentistry can get.

Fantastic experience: As posted by many other's, Arbutus North is a fantastic dental Clinic. I travel from Victoria, B.C. to see the amazing staff and highly accomplished dental Team. The facility is so lovely and bright. Dr. Hovan and his Assistant Rose, have been a life saver for me. Words alone can't convey my gratefulness to have such a highly skilled Dentist with compassion, who's work is very carefully planned and performed with such precision.... such perfection. Rose is so caring and a joy to be with. She has passion for Dentistry, as well and has been instrumental in my mental comfort during complex dental procedures. I adore her. The story is long but in a nut shell, I've experienced a life changing dental event that was completely resolved in less then 4 months, including healing time. This includes temporary appliances that allowed me to remain working, smiling and speaking confidently. Very important to me. The modern technology available to patients here, are top notch. Scheduling is so efficient and there's some free parking available, as well. I tell folks leery of dentistry to go to Arbutus North Dental as their fears or anxiety will be diminished. They have followed through and are also making the trip because it's so worth it! That's notable, in itself. Dental health affects our overall health so staying on top of it will help in the long - run. Win... win.

The process of making an appointment was quick and easy, and the receptionists were friendly and professional. The clinic itself is conveniently located and has a beautiful, comfortable waiting room. Once I was taken back for my appointment, I was impressed by the level of professionalism and expertise displayed by everyone I interacted with. During my cleaning, they even provided a TV to keep me focused on something, and to my surprise, they were playing The Office, which is one of my favorite shows. It was such a nice touch and made the experience even more enjoyable. The exams, check up, and cleaning were thorough and painless, and the dentist and hygienist took the time to explain everything they were doing and answer all of my questions.
